Hello,
Excuse me for using English. I am a Lieutenant in a small fire department in the United States. I have been reading what I can about the BSPP and BMPM. I would like to converse with a firefighter in either organization. I appreciate viewpoints on firefighting outside of the US.
Many thanks. I have been to France 3 times in the past and hope to return in the future! You have a beautiful country.
Regards,
Erik |

Hello hedy,
I am from Godfrey, Illinois. Godfrey is about 30 minutes from St. Louis, Missouri. You can go to www.godfreyfire.com to take a look at our department.
Yes I am familiar with the military affiliation of the BSPP with the army and the BMPM with the navy. It is unique from an American viewpoint to have a military unit provide fire and rescue services to a civilian city. That is why they interest me.
Thank you. |

Evehou,
Yes Route 66 is about 15 kilometers from where I live. It is more for historical value since the larger highways were built in the 1960's.
Anyone that would like to visit is welcome. My mother is a french teacher, she always like to talk with native French. |

Hello br@vo75,
I am interested in how a usual day works. I know every day is different with emergencies but I am sure there is a routine. |

Hello!
For the BSPP, since we are military, it is true there is a routine!!!
One usual day proceeds in the following way:
The morning is devoted to the sport and the trainings (fire formation and first aid). After, they're the administrative tasks and the maintenance of the buildings. In end of day there is a second training of sport
Example :
At 06:30 AM : it's the wake up!
07:45 : Meeting and checking of the material :
8:00 at 10:00 : Sport (jogging, gymnastics, swimming, musculation) :
10:00 at 12:00 : Meeting again (with test of the "planche" / board) and formation (fire and first aid) :
12:00 at 13:45 : There's lunch and cleaning buildings :
13:45 : Another meeting an test of "planche" / board (but this time in light clothing)
14:00 at 17:00 administrative tasks and the maintenance of the buildings :
17:00 at 19:00 : Sport :
19:00 at the following day eat and free time :
One link find on youtube of the routine!
here
For the BMPM, I do not know too much how that occurs, but that must be similar...
Regards,

Merci beaucoup! That is the extent of my French!
What does the test of the planche (board) accomplish?
You do that routine 21 days in a row? After that how long are you off duty?
So 0800-1000 is exercise and 1700-1900 is exercise. Does everyone do the same thing or can you exercise as an individual?
You do fire and medical training everyday?
Is each person assigned to the same truck every day or do you rotate?
Thank you again. |

About the board, you must climb it, there are 3 or 4 different ways, here's a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9oz8CF5NR8
If you don't arrive to climb it, you can't go on interventions, then you must stay at the firestation
In a month, paris firemen work between 11/14 times of 24 hours, they can do that with using 24hours/48hours/72hours of duty guard. In the old time it was 18, and then 13 times when married
About exercising, it depends of the kind of exercices, but there are also ranked-firemen who do sport trainings, and also a"sport planning" of the week/month.
About the truck, if what i think is correct, when you are on duty guard, you can go to every kind of intervention, as example, in the same day, you go on a car-accident, or an hurt-person & you can also go later to a fire
I'm not paris fireman yet, it's a passion for a while, my dad was it and on my side, i'm going to do the tests in january.
Maybe i mistaked few points but i tried my best to answer you!
Cheers!

Lol!! it's already well!!!
What does the test of the planche (board) accomplish?
it's a tradition in our corporation… for better understanding the principle look at this videos : first link // second link
You do that routine 21 days in a row? After that how long are you off duty?
On average, we have 12/15 workdays per month.
We work one, two or three days, then one is rest two, three or four days
So 0800-1000 is exercise and 1700-1900 is exercise. Does everyone do the same thing or can you exercise as an individual?
Most of the time, the morning it's the same and the evening it's individual.
You do fire and medical training everyday?
Yes, the training, (fire and medical), is made every day.
Is each person assigned to the same truck every day or do you rotate?
We turn each days in the vehicles, for example once in the ambulance the following day with the firetruck.
Thank you again.
Your welcome, it's my pleasure
